This is a 1:100,000 scale map of the land cover in southern New England. It was made from 9 Landsat images taken over the course of 2 years (from 9/91-9/93). This map was produced by interpreting 5 hyperclustered images produced by EROS Data Center's MRLC program. The dates of the original Landsat imagery, two of the color composites possible for each date, and each of the hypercluster images are available. Ground truth used to produce the classification was primarily interpreted aerial videography. Problems remaining as of 1997: spatial error of up to 600m in the northeast part of the image (there is an error of 50m throughout the image); poor classification in the northeast portion of image where two summer Landsat scenes were used; errors in presence of islands (some islands were erased due to reliance on 1:100,000 hydrology coverage for land-water distinction): and the southwestern part of Connecticut is still missing. Planned Updates: Identify which of these problems have been addressed and which require further attention; An improved version is being worked on to correct the above errors, to improve classification accuracy; Edge match this image with the surrounding states.
